Grizzly Bear Actors is a new club available for GGC students with interests in theater and film. They welcome actors, writers and set designers.
“We do want to stress that we’re not just doing film or theater. We’re trying to incorporate film and theater and not only just the acting aspect” Robyn Rogers, Cinema and Media Arts Production major and Bear Actors president said.
Bear Actors plans to host several hands-on workshops and panels led by industry professionals, many of whom work at or with the Aurora Theatre. GGC’s partnership with the Aurora Theatre provides opportunities for student performers including the ability to have guest speakers.
Rogers hopes to collaborate with the Aurora Theatre even more in the future.
“I’d love to do a tour of the Aurora Theatre” Rogers said. “Hopefully, we can just be more involved rather than just having guest speakers.”
The City of Lawrenceville approved a $31 million expansion of the Aurora Theatre earlier this month, which is expected to be completed in 2020. Additional educational space, including three classrooms, is being incorporated.
GGC now awaits approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to be able to host classes at the theater once construction is completed.
“I think GGC has a great relationship with the Aurora Theatre now, especially since we’ve just been approved to do the expansion,” Rogers said. “I think they’re trying to incorporate more CMAP classes and opportunities as well.”
“I just know the CMAP major is going to blow up with the new theater and everything,” Rogers said.
Bear Actors will host the Second Annual Grizzly One Act Series, a collection of five- to ten-minute one-act plays written, directed and performed by students, later this semester. The production will be staged in the Cisco Auditorium.
“I would really want to see this evolve to eventually the club not only doing one act, but also, they can do more productions throughout the whole school year,” Rogers said.
To get involved with the club, students can email Rogers at firstname.lastname@example.org or sign up for the club’s Remind 101 by texting @bearlyact to 81010.
Auditions for Grizzly One Act Series will be held on February 14th from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and February 15th from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The location is not yet determined. For further information about auditions and applying for crew positions, students should e-mail Rogers at email@example.com and Shannon Bermudez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
