Interim President Dr. Mary Beth Walker announced on March 20 that she would be leaving her post at GGC effective July 1. The announcement came just two months after Dr. Walker introduced herself to the GGC community as the interim president following former President Dr. Stas Preczewksi’s abrupt departure in December.
“I am so impressed with GGC and I love the mission and the passion that faculty, staff and students have for the college,” Dr. Walker said in an email to the GGC community. “I look forward to continuing the progress we are making together as we position the college for the next chapter.”
Dr. Walker joined GGC as interim president in January. She previously served as associate provost for Strategic Initiatives and Innovations at Georgia State University and will be joining California State University, Northridge as provost and senior vice president of academic affairs later this year.
Dr. Walker ended her email by saying that she would “be on board until the new president has transitioned.”
Just over a week later, on March 28, GGC released a press release stating that Dr. Jan Luciana Joseph has been named the finalist for GGC’s third president. Dr. Joseph, currently the interim chancellor of Indiana University South Bend, is a lifelong educator who has “spent her career working to increase educational opportunities and student success,” according to the press release.
“The opportunity to lead GGC would be a dream come true,” Dr. Joseph said. “The path of my career in higher education intersects perfectly with the vision and goals GGC has for the future. My background and values also fit with the culture and priorities of the institution from the Board of Regents to the faculty, students, staff and community. I’m impressed with the accomplishments of GGC and believe that my experience and leadership would enable the institution to reach new heights.”
GGC’s Office of Public Relations was unable to confirm whether GGC’s third president would start her new role prior to Dr. Walker’s end date of July 1.
